The Coop Assembly

The Republic's legislature sits after the afternoon feed, on the principle that no bird is reasonable while hungry. Debates are loud, procedure is sacred, and the gallery has been known to sing.

The parties of the Republic, every one of them home-grown at Kisi, and, we promise, sharing a name with no party you could vote for outside the coop.

  • Progressive Peckers Party

    PPP · “Forward with Feed!”

    The governing party. Broad, confident, and fond of commissioning things, nesting boxes, water troughs, committees. Its manifesto, 'The Agenda for Renewed Pecking,' runs to forty-one pages, of which the section on breakfast punctuality is by far the most quoted.

  • New Grain Alliance

    NGA · “Count Every Egg. Twice.”

    The main opposition. Forensic, tireless, allergic to round numbers. The NGA has demanded an independent recount of the National Egg Census every month since records began, and has been right to at least once.

  • Free Feathers Front

    FFF · “Perches for All!”

    Small, idealistic, and decisive out of all proportion to its size, the FFF holds the balance of votes on the Nesting Box Expansion Bill and knows it. Party meetings are held under the mango tree and open with one minute of contented scratching.

  • Clean Water and Healthy Feathers Act

    Passed

    Mandates daily trough inspection, wet-season drainage watch, and a national standard for water 'you would let your own chick drink.' Passed unanimously after Dr. Featherwell's committee testimony, which consisted of one glass of before and one glass of after.

  • National Nesting Box Expansion Bill

    In debate

    Proposes six additional nesting boxes and the retirement of the creaky one everyone avoids. Deadlocked: the government cites national dignity, the opposition cites the budget, and the Free Feathers Front, which holds the deciding votes, has tabled seventeen amendments about perch access and is enjoying itself enormously.

  • Senior Hen Retirement Protection Act ('Mama Gold's Law')

    In debate

    Guarantees every retired layer shade, priority at the trough, and freedom from sudden committee membership. Passed its second reading amid singing; third reading scheduled for after the Feather Gala 'so that everyone is in the right mood.'

  • Young Chick Representation Bill

    Proposed

    Would reserve one Assembly seat and the Youth & Chick Development portfolio for a citizen under one year old. Sponsored from outside the Assembly by petition, 118 footprints collected at Chick Sprint Saturdays. Elders are said to be 'studying it,' which the sponsor has described as 'the place bills go to nap.'

  • Coop Security Modernization Bill

    Proposed

    A rare opposition-sponsored security bill: louder alarm calls, a second dusk headcount, and a standing consultation with the geese. The government supports it in principle, which the sponsor notes 'is where support goes to cool down.'

A note from the Kisi Electoral Commission
